PALEOGRAPHICS
Glen Colwell

Glen ColwellThese castings were created from the fossilized and non-fossilized remains of creatures collected from all over the world.  They are not meant to be scientifically accurate in terms of proper groupings according to geologic epochs, but were created instead to evoke feelings and thought in those who view them.  No living organisms were harmed in the creation of these castings.

These fine art castings are created using mold making and casting techniques.  Indoor and outdoor pieces are cast with integral hanging hardware and are designed for wall mounting.  Architectural pieces can be installed in the same manner as standard tile or stone work.

Materials used for indoor pieces include gypsum cement, mineral oxide tints, fiberglass, and steel mesh.  Each hand finished piece is further treated to successive applications of surface pigments and washes to achieve a richly colored patina which highlights the textures and patterns of ancient life forms.  Architectural pieces are treated in a similar manner except that they are composed of Portland  cement products and may contain different reinforcing materials depending on size and application
